A colorful accent in a classic bathroom - terrazzo
Terrazzo, also known as terrazzo or terrazzo, is a resistant and giving many arrangement options material for covering floors, walls and accessories. After a time of not necessarily good associations, terrazzo returns to the favors of interior architects and decorators. It looks especially good in bathrooms.
Terrazzo - what exactly is it?
Terrazzo is a building material, most often used for finishing floors and pouring floors. It is a mixture of water, cement, grit and various types of stone fragments (e.g. marble), and optionally - dyes. Nowadays, the concrete base has almost unlimited colors, it can have both small and large pieces of stones. The terrazzo surface can be finished to a high gloss or left to its natural roughness. This makes terrazzo an extremely original material, and its arrangement possibilities are practically unlimited. Once associated with the extremely popular, durable and relatively cheap building material, today it gains the status of a fashionable form of decorating spaces - e.g. walls or floors. Due to its durability and resistance to damage, it is perfect for bathrooms and kitchens.
Floors, like from Italian palaces - we disenchant the charms
Terrazzo has both a large group of supporters and opponents. It evokes negative associations mainly in people who remember the ubiquitous terrazzo surfaces, unambiguously ascribing them to the times of the PRL. At that time, this material was not only extremely popular, but also did not resemble the present terrazzo, which appears not only in the gray associated with the PRL, but also in other, colored varieties. The history of terrazzo, however, is longer and richer. This type of material was already used in antiquity, while it lived its glory several hundred years ago in Italy to return in glory in the first decades of the 20th century (especially in art deco art). The 1970s in Poland found terrazzo a cheap and universal way of covering many planes. And although many of us associate this material with the unpleasant gray of the PRL, it is time to look at terrazzo with a kind eye. The arrangement possibilities it offers are really impressive.
Terrazzo in a modern, classic bathroom
Although terrazzo is mainly associated with the floor, it can also be successfully used for covering walls. Adding one wall covered with this material to a classic bathroom adds character and originality to the room. Due to the color heterogeneity of terrazzo, it is worth focusing on moderation - individual elements of the bathroom covered with terrazzo passes the test of aesthetics much better than the entire interior bathed in this material. A terrazzo floor can also be a great solution, as well as filling the recesses with it, adding dimension and character to the space. When planning a bathroom arrangement, it is also worth considering tiles imitating terrazzo. This type of finish serves not only stylistic functions - both terrazzo and tiles patterned on it, are characterized by resistance to damage and resistance to moisture or high temperature - thanks to this, it works great in every bathroom.
